Lawrence MacAulay has proudly represented the riding of Cardigan for more than 25 years. He first served in Opposition and was appointed to Cabinet under Jean Chrétien as Secretary of State for Veteran Affairs in 1993. Lawrence later served as Minister of Labour and the Minister responsible for Prince Edward Island within the federal Cabinet. In his most recent Cabinet position, Lawrence served two terms as Solicitor General of Canada. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Fisheries and Oceans and as the Liberal Critic for Fisheries and Oceans.
Before entering politics, Lawrence was a successful seed potato and dairy farmer and he remains active within the PEI community. This year he was named PEI’s longest serving MP and also proudly holds the PEI record for hugging the most people in a single day. Lawrence looks forward to continuing to serve the Cardigan community and representing their interests in Ottawa.
